Each role at Skipton requires different skills and levels of capability, and our assessment and selection processes will reflect that. You’ll get plenty of information about how you might be able to prepare and how long any assessments are likely to take or in some cases we’ll just ask you to come along so we can assess you on the day ‘in the moment’. Whatever the approach, seeing the real ‘you’ is just as important as qualifications and previous experiences, and if you do have any questions just get in touch.

Make sure you tell us about your relevant skills and your personal values. The application process isn’t too long – but don’t forget the importance of a good first impression.
If we think you might be a suitable match, we may give you a call, depending on the role you’ve applied for. It’s at this point we really want to get to know you, and see how we could work together.
Some roles in our branch network involve a recruitment event, where we’ll invite you and other applicants to meet with us in branch. You’ll have opportunity to ask any questions you may have and find out more about what we have to offer.
The next stage is meeting you in person. Depending on the role, you’ll either be invited to take part in a face-to-face interview or an assessment centre which could involve a presentation or other role-specific tests.
After your face-to-face interview we’ll get back to you with the outcome and offer you some feedback, and if you’re successful we’ll start the process of welcoming you to Skipton. Please note, we’ll need to run some pre-employment screening before you join us, and all offers are subject to passing these checks.
Don’t forget the basics.
Make sure your CV is up to date – we’d like to know what you’re doing currently, or what you’ve done recently.
We want to know about your work experience, of course, but what else have you done?
Perhaps you’ve taken part in voluntary work, challenging projects, travel, sports or professional development.
Bear in mind which job you’re applying for and make sure you tell us which skills you have that closely match what we’re looking for.
This might seem like common sense, but make sure you check for spelling mistakes and other errors too.

Find somewhere quiet that’s free from interruption to complete the tests. That will give you a chance to really show us what you can do.
Good preparation is by far the best way to ensure you get the most out of the interview experience.

Research the position and the skills and behaviours required. When preparing for your interview, try think about your own experiences and specific examples that show how you measure up.
Think about how you would structure an answer to a competency-based question.
These types of questions usually begin “Give us an example of ……” or “Tell us about a time when …….” You should set the scene by providing a brief background to the situation, describe what you had to achieve, tells us in detail how you achieved it, and then let us know what the outcome was.
When you answer these questions the assessors are interested in your specific role and actions during a particular situation so make sure you focus on the ‘I’ rather than ‘we’.
Listen carefully to the interviewer’s questions.
If you don’t understand the question don’t be afraid to ask us to repeat or rephrase it. We’ll be happy to.
Remember the interview is your opportunity to get information from us so come prepared with your questions.
